The amount of Power we can get from the wind depends on the following factors 

  • Air Density  [ Directly Related ]
  • Rotor Diameter of the Wind Turbine [ Direct and Square]
  • Wind Speed [Direct and cube]

 

Power (P) =  0.5 X p X  A X V3……………………………………. (1)                

(or) Power (P) =  0.5 X p X  pi x r2 X V3       [Where pi = 3.14]

 In other words….

Power directly proportional to the

Air Density (p)

Square of the Rotor Radius (r)

Cube of the Wind Speed (v)

 

The equation (1) gives the total energy available in wind.   But in practical we can able to convert only less than 59%[Betz Law] of kinetic energy in the wind to mechanical energy by using wind turbines.
