Gamesa’s orders for the new G97-2.0 MW turbine total 356 MW in the H2 of 2011, its inaugural year

February 6, 2012

Europe accounted for the largest share of orders (40%), followed by China (28%) and the US (26.4%). India and Canada accounted for 2.8% each

Gamesa, a global technology leader in wind energy, secured contracts to supply 356 MW of its new G97-2.0 MW turbine in deals signed in the second half of 2011, the year of the global launch of this new turbine.

Europe, specifically Spain, accounted for the largest share of orders: 40% of the total, or 71 units of the G97-2.0 MW turbine amounting to 142 MW of capacity.

China accounted for 28% of orders, with a total of 100 MW, followed closely by the United States, which generated orders for 94 MW (26.4% of the total) in this period. Meanwhile, customers in India ordered 10 MW (2.8%) matching orders from Canada. The Canadian deal marks Gamesa’s first contract in the country.

Gamesa began manufacturing this turbine in four regions simultaneously. Factories in Spain, China, India and the US are currently producing the new turbines, following upgrades of existing facilities or plant expansions (in the case of India), to address rising demand from this growth market.

Gamesa again leads Spain’s wind energy market in 2011

February 6, 2012

Gamesa again leads Spain’s wind energy market in 2011 with 54% of the country’s installed capacity to date

Even though Spain’s wind industry grew at its slowest-ever pace in 2011, with installed capacity to date of 21,673 MW

Gamesa, a global technology leader in the wind energy business, again led the Spanish wind market in 2011 by installing 461.15 MW of turbine capacity.

This figure, according to data issued today by the Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE), represents a market share of 44%.

Gamesa is also Spain’s market leader in terms of cumulative wind capacity installed through 2011, with a total of 11,5510.16 MW, or 53.1% of the total MW (21,673 MW) installed in Spain from the industry’s inception through 2011, according to AEE data.

Gamesa in 2011 cemented its lead as the No. 1 manufacturer in Spain despite a troublesome backdrop for the business, which resulted in the weakest growth in history for the Spanish wind energy market.

According to AEE figures, total installed capacity in Spain to date (2011) amounts to 21,673 MW, following last year’s increase of 1,050 MW, a 5.1-percent rise from 2010 due to regulatory uncertainty and the economic crisis. The total installed capacity is below the previous Government’s target for 2011, close to 22,119 MW.

The Pre-allocation Register’s final year is 2012. A total of 1,903 MW are currently registered and pending entry into service, of which 970 MW face difficulties being installed before the registration deadline due to problems not attributable to developers. Less than 10% of the Spanish production is assigned to orders from Spain. According to AEE figures, the 10,450 MW installed in Spain correspond to wind turbines orders from previous years.

While wind energy growth in 2011 substantially trailed that of 2010, wind farms accounted for 15.75% of annual electricity consumption, according to Red Eléctrica de España (REE). This energy source prevented the emission of 22 million tonnes of CO2 in 2011.

Gamesa secures a deal to supply 50 MW of turbines in Almería and to maintain them for 10 years

February 6, 2012

Gamesa, a global technology leader in wind energy, has secured a contract with the Santa María joint venture (made up of two Grupo Ortiz companies) to deliver 50 MW of turbines for the Santa María de Nieva wind farm (phases I and II), owned by Explotaciones Eólicas Vélez Rubio and slated for construction outside the towns of Vélez Rubio and Huércal-Overa in Almeria (Spain).

Gamesa will deliver 25 of its G97-2.0 MW turbines in the second half of 2012 and expects to complete their installation by the end of July 2012.

In addition to supplying, transporting and erecting the turbines, Gamesa will perform operation and maintenance (O&M) services on the machines for a period of 10 years.

Meanwhile, Grupo Ibereólica will design the wind farm and handle project management and technical and administrative management during the farms’ construction and operation.

Around 2,000 MW installed and 700 MW under development in Andalusia

Gamesa has had a significant presence in Andalusia since the mid-1990s as both a wind turbine supplier and wind farm maintenance provider and developer.

The company has installed 1,960 MW of turbines in Andalusia.

As a wind farm builder in Andalusia, Gamesa has developed, built and put into operation a total of 700 MW distributed across 23 wind farm projects.
